NRSWA Supervisors are responsible for overseeing street works projects, ensuring that all operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Their role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of public infrastructure and minimising disruptions during construction and maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Oversight
    • Oversee the work of NRSWA Operatives to ensure tasks are completed according to plan and in compliance with safety standards.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and identify any potential issues.
    • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) requirements.
  • Safety Management
    • Implement and enforce health and safety protocols on site.
    • Ensure that all operatives are equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and are following safety procedures.
    • Identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Compliance and Documentation
    • Ensure all necessary permits and licenses are obtained before commencing work.
    • Maintain accurate records of all site activities, including inspections, audits, and any incidents that occur.
    • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including the Code of Practice for Safety at Street Works and Road Works.
  • Communication and Coordination
    • Liaise with local authorities, utility companies, and other stakeholders to coordinate street works activities and minimise disruptions.
    • Communicate effectively with the project team, providing clear instructions and updates as necessary.
    • Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during the course of the project.
  • Training and Development
    • Ensure that all operatives are adequately trained and competent to perform their duties.
    • Provide guidance and support to team members, helping them to develop their skills and knowledge.
    • Stay up to date with industry developments and best practices, ensuring continuous improvement in street works operations.
  • Quality Control
    • Monitor the quality of work being carried out, ensuring it meets the required standards.
    • Conduct final inspections upon project completion to ensure all work has been completed to a high standard and that the site is left in a safe and satisfactory condition.

Role in Project Planning

  • Assist in the planning and scheduling of street works projects.
  • Provide input into risk assessments and method statements to ensure all potential risks are identified and managed.
  • Help to allocate resources effectively, ensuring the project is completed on time and within budget.
