Cheryl of TUTS UK wins Female Founder of the Year at the Female Founders Summit, recognising her impact on construction training.
Cheryl Loak, director of TUTS UK, has been named ‘Female Founder of the Year’ at the recent Female Founders Summit, recognising her exceptional contributions to the construction industry and her dedication to empowering women in the field.
Cheryl, who founded TUTS UK in 2013, expressed her astonishment and gratitude upon receiving the award. “I’m quite astonished, it’s hard to put into words. It’s nice to be recognised that we’re on the right track,” she told the Chronicle & Echo. Despite her humility, it’s clear that Cheryl’s hard work and passion for quality training have not gone unnoticed.
Cheryl’s journey in the construction industry began in 2004, initially as a temp worker. It wasn’t by choice that she entered the field, but her interest in quality training eventually led her to establish TUTS UK. The company, which offers a wide range of health and safety training courses, was born out of Cheryl’s desire to provide high-quality training and to have more flexibility in her career as she prepared to start a family.
The construction industry has evolved significantly since Cheryl first entered it, and she believes she would have chosen this path willingly if she had more options back then. Her company’s mission is to empower industry professionals through proactive training, ensuring they receive the courses they need and want.
Cheryl’s dedication to excellence extends beyond just providing training. She is committed to ensuring top-quality customer experiences and continuous improvement within her company. The 10-month Lucienne Coaching Academy programme, which she recently completed, has been instrumental in helping her refine TUTS UK’s business fundamentals and set new goals for the future.
The pandemic hit TUTS UK hard, but Cheryl’s resilience and proactive approach have helped the company bounce back stronger. The coaching programme provided her with the knowledge and motivation to push forward, alongside her dedicated team.
Cheryl is excited about the future of TUTS UK, with plans to expand services beyond training. She believes that fostering longevity, partnerships, and collaboration will be key to the company’s continued success.
Reflecting on her experience at the Female Founders Summit, Cheryl highlighted the importance of hearing others’ stories and the invaluable support network, friendships, and community she has found through the event. “Hearing people’s stories. We all have our challenges, some more than others. Having that support network, friendships and community is priceless,” she said.
Cheryl Loak’s recognition as Female Founder of the Year is a testament to her dedication, vision, and impact on the construction industry. TUTS UK continues to thrive under her leadership, setting new standards for training and empowering professionals in the field.
