NVQ Overview
The L2 NVQ Certificate in Construction Operations – General Construction is designed to confirm the competence of learners with the skills and knowledge required to work safely and effectively in various general construction roles. This includes general construction tasks, health and safety practices, site operations, and construction techniques.
Assessment and Certification:
This course is suitable for individuals working in construction industry, who carry out general construction task, eg drainage and/or concreting and are required to hold a CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive the L2 NVQ Certificate in Construction Operations – General Construction (Competence) and the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card, demonstrating their competence in general construction operations.
The qualification covers 3 mandatory units – Conforming to Health and Safety, Conforming to Productive Working Practices and Installing, Maintaining and Removing Work Area Protection and Safety Equipment. There are then 2 optional units – Installing Drainage or Placing and Finishing Concrete
Learners must have experience of groundworks in the construction industry, site experience, a basic understanding of construction principles and be physically fit to carry out construction tasks.
Assessment is carried out through a portfolio of evidence including observations, witness testimonies and work products. Learners will be assessed by qualified assessors to ensure they meet the standards for certification.

The qualification covers a range of responsibilities, including health and safety practices, site setup and operations, basic construction techniques, effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Participants will prove the skills needed to work safely and efficiently on construction sites.
Participants will have an understanding of health and safety regulations, hazard identification, and risk management practices, the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working procedures to prevent accidents and injuries on site.
The qualification covers basic construction techniques, with optional units including concrete work and drainage, and other general construction tasks. Participants will provide competence in these skills
Participants will prove competence in techniques for efficient site operations, including site setup, logistics, material handling, and traffic management, site layout planning and the coordination needed to ensure smooth and organised site activities.
The qualification includes proving effective communication and teamwork skills. Participants will have an understanding of the importance of clear communication and cooperation with colleagues and supervisors to enhance collaboration and productivity on construction sites.
Competency is assessed through a combination of practical observations and knowledge-based tasks. Participants must demonstrate their ability to perform various construction tasks and their understanding of health and safety practices to achieve certification.

The qualification can take between 1 and 2 days to complete, as long as site requirements are in place to be able to carry out the tasks for the qualification
