CambridgeHOK, in collaboration with TUTS, achieves a UK-first with new CITB-accredited glasshouse installation NVQs, setting industry standards.
In a groundbreaking development for the horticultural and construction sectors, CambridgeHOK, in collaboration with TUTS (UK) Limited, has proudly become the first company in the UK to achieve industry-specific NVQs in glasshouse installation. This milestone underscores their leadership in specialist training, with three of their installation team members – David Berry, Christian James, and David Evans – securing these newly created qualifications, awarded by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
These qualifications, including a Level 2 ProQual diploma in steel erecting, a Level 2 NVQ in curtain walling installations & fenestration/doors, and bespoke Level 3 units in teaks management and Health & Safety, are specifically tailored to the complex demands of commercial and bespoke glasshouse construction. Developed by CambridgeHOK’s Operations & Projects Manager, Jason Tether, an experienced NVQ assessor and verifier, in partnership with TUTS, these qualifications represent a significant advancement in industry training standards.
Mr Tether expressed his enthusiasm for this achievement: “This is a big step forward for our industry. Until now, there hasn’t been a specific qualification awarded by a recognised accrediting body that addresses the key elements of commercial and bespoke glasshouse builds. It’s about upskilling the industry and providing a qualification that recognises the skills and abilities of our workforce.”
The qualifications encompass a wide range of essential skills and knowledge, from handling materials in fenestration installations to understanding detailed drawings, specifications, and safety protocols. The curriculum also covers critical aspects of steel structure construction, including working safely at height, managing steelwork joints, and effectively mitigating risks.
Upon completion, the candidates were awarded Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) site cards, signifying their competence in all major aspects of glasshouse construction. This achievement not only validates the high skill level of CambridgeHOK’s team but also sets a new benchmark for industry training.
CambridgeHOK’s joint managing directors, Patrick Harte and Louis Bradley, presented the certificates to the newly qualified team members at a recent event. Mr Bradley highlighted the broader impact of this accomplishment: “This achievement exemplifies our commitment to not just our ongoing projects but to the continuous development of our team and the industry as a whole. We’re proud to have worked with TUTS and look forward to more of our team earning this qualification in the near future.”
This initiative by CambridgeHOK and TUTS is a clear demonstration of their dedication to excellence and innovation in the construction industry, providing a pathway for others to follow in raising the standards of training and qualification.
