CPCS Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor

The CPCS Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating crane and lifting operations on construction sites. This role involves ensuring that all lifting activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with legal and industry standards. The supervisor plays a critical role in managing the workforce, equipment, and procedures required for safe lifting operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of Lifting Operations:
    • Oversee all lifting operations on-site, ensuring that they are conducted according to the lifting plan.
    • Monitor the setup and use of cranes and other lifting equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
    • Ensure that all lifting operations are carried out by trained and competent personnel.
  • Coordination with Appointed Person:
  • Safety Management:
    • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Identify potential hazards related to lifting operations and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.
    • Ensure that all lifting equipment is regularly inspected, maintained, and certified for use.
  • Risk Assessment and Control:
    • Assist in the preparation of risk assessments for lifting operations, ensuring that all potential hazards are identified and controlled.
    • Implement and enforce safety measures to protect workers and equipment during lifting activities.
    • Update and maintain records of risk assessments, ensuring they are accessible and up-to-date.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
  • Training and Development:
    • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to crane operators, riggers, and other lifting personnel.
    • Ensure that all personnel involved in lifting operations are fully trained and certified.
    • Keep up-to-date with the latest industry practices, safety standards, and technological advancements in lifting operations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of crane and lifting operations.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, particularly LOLER and PUWER.
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to conduct detailed risk assessments and implement control measures.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • CPCS certification as a Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor.
